Watching seals in Baie d’Authie

Your visit to Baie d’Authie wouldn’t be complete without an encounter with the famous calf and grey seals. By respecting their space, you can observe these fascinating animals in their natural habitat. Seals can be seen in Berck-sur-Mer every day, all year round, at low tide. We recommend that you bring binoculars to admire them from a distance.

A birdwatching outing

A favorite stopover for wading birds, Baie d’Authie is a paradise for birdwatchers. White spoonbills andegrets can be seen from afar, provided you’re discreet. Don’t miss the grey heron , which thrives in a wide variety of natural habitats. The best observation spots are the Authie channel (near the little port of La Madelon) and the Routhiauville dunes.

A hike to gather and discover wild edible plants

Glasswort, mugwort, sea buckthorn berries… The Baie d’Authie is rich in edible wild plants. Nature guides offer guided outings to reveal the secrets of this larder. Picking saltwort is a fun and tasty activity in the Baie d’Authie. Picking is permitted from June 1 to August 31. Salicornia, also known as “sea beans”, can be cooked like any other vegetable. It goes very well with fish and seafood.
