Cayeux, get away and get a breath of fresh air at the seaside!
Once you reach the Cayeux casino, you can head to the pebble beach and make the most of your holiday in the sea air! The 14km long beach in Cayeux-sur-Mer is the perfect place to unwind. The kite is king here and the resort hosts the annual Kite Festival every June. You can also try out kitesurfing, sea kayaking, shellfish gathering with the family or have a picnic on the beach...The seaside activities are endless for your camping break in the Baie de Somme! Cayeux beach is also home to the longest boardwalk in Europe (the locals will tell you too!). It covers almost 2km of the seafront with retro colourful huts so you'll feel like you've gone back to the Belle Époque for a walk!
You don't have to venture far from the beach to visit the Marins Chapel which encapsulates the eternal bonds between the town and its maritime past. The neo-gothic chapel was built in the late 1850s and houses a sailing ex-voto in the form of a boat hanging in the middle of the nave.
If you're a history buff or just want to see another side to Cayeux-sur-Mer, seek out the many blockhouses along the coast, namely on the white road to Le Hourdel and near Brighton lighthouse. Guided summer tours provided by the Maison de la Baie inform visitors about these Second World War relics and the Atlantic Wall.
The small port and Pointe du Hourdel: meet the bay’s seals!
Le Hourdel is a small hamlet in Cayeux-sur-Mer on the edge of the Baie de Somme that you can cycle to along the bike path. When you reach the little port, you can watch the traditional “sauterellier” boats come and go as they fish for grey shrimp. From the Pointe du Hourdel, if you’re lucky you can spot the Baie de Somme’s famous seals in summer at low tide. A must-do during your camping break near Cayeux-sur-Mer!

Cayeux means pebble in Picard because the history of Cayeux-sur-Mer is intrinsically linked to pebbles that were once the town’s sole resource. The pebbles, Cayeux-sur-Mer’s blue gold, were hand collected, transported on the back of horses or mules then sailed to Britain where they were processed and used to make ceramics and earthenware.
